SUPERcell Ultra-high Efficiency Solar Cells

XE is developing a fundamentally new type of solar cell based on a nano-structured plasmonic vacuum tubes that are used for energy conversion, it is called the SUrface Plasmon Enhanced Rectification-based solar cell or "SUPERcell" for short. Such cells are designed to be used within a high concentration environment, and have the potential to reach conversion efficiencies in excess of 64% - the theoretical limit for triple-junction solar cells. SUPERcells are currently a high-risk / high-reward research project, which if successful could transform the CPV industry. SUPERcells address the problem of relatively low efficiencies and rare elements being used in today's solar cells. It does this by eliminating the use of semi-conductors altogether.
