Military

The military already appreciates the scale of the growing energy problem for war fghters, as has been noted by the U.S. Army Core of Engineers and the U.S. Joint Forces Command—see Expert Reports. XE-CPV is being developed to meet the needs of high-intensity users having limited time and area for deployment.

Specifically, XE-CPV solar panels will deliver the highest energy return per unit area of all renewable technologies from high efficiency solar panels that are similar in weight and profile to traditional silicon solar panels. This will ease the logistical burden in deploying off grid electrical power generation to front line military bases, field hospitals and domestic bases. Man-portable, lightweight, foldable, smaller units are also possible for powering military electronic equipment used by troops in the field. The tracking mechanism will self align to the Sun however the panels are oriented when laid down, and the actuation mechanism is kept dirt free, and hence reliable, by being hermetically sealed from its external environment. Permanent military bases can use standard XE-CPV installations to meet their power needs from the smallest footprint of land area. XE is also working on an exceptionally high efficiency semiconductor-free solar cell, called a SUPERcell, which has the potential to take our panel performance to even high levels of performance.

On the domestic side of national energy security, XE believes that to eliminate our dependence on foreign oil we need to move aggressively towards electrification of our domestic transportation infrastructure, which in turn will require a dramatic expansion in renewable power generation and distribution. XE-CPV technology is one of relatively few renewable technologies that can potentially meet the need demand using a realisitic amount of domestic U.S. land area.
