Building Integrated Photovoltaics

Many large corporations are now freely adopting, or forced by new regulations, to adopt green energy policies that will ensure a steadily growing fraction of their total energy needs are met from renewable energy sources. This is leading to a growth in building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV). Today, the BIPV market segment is dominated by silicon PV installations. However, since XE SunStalker technology allows thin, electronically actuated solar trackers to be integrated into XE SunRise HCPV panels, XE can bring higher efficiency building integrated concentrating photovoltaics to the rooftops and facades of commercial buildings at a price point competitive with silicon panels. XE therefore foresees an emerging market segment in building-integrated CPV. Moreover, the predominant transparency of XE CPV panels will permit architects to customize coloration, and incorporate low power LEDs to achieve interesting lighting effects. This allows building integrated photovoltaic installations to be both more architecturally interesting and higher efficiency in electricity generation at the same time.
