Xtreme Energetics (XE) is developing a new approach to large scale concentrating photovoltaic (CPV) solar power for use in desert central utilities and commercial rooftops and facades. The technology, called “XE-CPV”, offers the highest energy return per unit area of any renewable energy technology, and has the potential to be scaled up to meet a significant fraction of our national and global power needs. XE-CPV panels combine innovative patented, or patent-pending, advances in solar concentrators, trackers, and photovoltaic cells and will also be equipped, eventually, with on-panel storage to make the system a viable source of baseload power. Their predominant transparency also allows architects to design in color and low-power lighting effects to facade-mounted panels.
